Researcher Audio Log 009.2
Foreword: The following meeting was recorded on April 6, 2014.
[BEGIN LOG]
Dr. Pennington: Week one of our study has concluded. At the end of each study period, we will come to discuss and combine our acquired knowledge for each area of… RPC-009 magic. We really ought to come up with an actual name for this thing.
Dr. Morris: Is each study period going to last only a week? That seems rather short.
Dr. Pennington: No, just the first. Most will be a month or two.
Dr. Morris: I see.
Dr. Mccann: Well, Vasquez and I have made good progress on 009-1, -2 and -5. That is to say, 009-1 is just a satchel. It is quite unnotworthy. 009-2, however, is fascinating. We are still awaiting a full translation but what we have so far is a promising look into the history of… their timeline. Do we have a name for the alternate reality? How do ALTR codes come about anyhow?
Dr. Pennington: I believe they are arbitrary. Let's just come up with something.
Dr. Cartwright: How about 'ALTR-MTGS'?
Dr. Pennington: That works. Is there any meaning behind it?
Dr. Cartwright: Absolutely none.
Dr. Pennington: Right. We'll use that. Mccann, how's about 009-5?
Dr. Mccann: Well, uh. As you all know, it's pretty destroyed. Only thing of note is the ominous message directed at us, saying that he is going to come back for his stuff.
Dr. Macgregor: Should we be worried of that? He comes back, hurts us all, beats us up, et cetera? Could happen, yes? I have not good heath ensurance, 'specially for magic-related wounds.
Dr. Pennington: No, that's ridiculous. There's nothing to worry about. They've been providing regular communication and containment of him has been quite fine.
Dr. Cartwright: Doesn't he have really powerful magic though? That's what I heard.
Dr. Pennington: Er, possibly.
Dr. Morris: Yes I heard he does. And he's not really being contained? Just he doesn't know where else to go so he stays there and cooperates? If he ever found out where our research lab is, he could just leave and come here…
Dr. Pennington: No, that's wrong. He's fully contained in a steel thaum-proof chamber.
Dr. Morris: Oh, apologies. I must have been mistaken or overly presumptuous.
Dr. Vasquez: I heard he used his powers to blow up an airplane. The plane was in mid-air.
Dr. Pennington: What? I've heard nothing of this. That sounds ridiculous.
Dr. Morris: No, I've heard that too.
Dr. Cartwright: Sounds like magic powerful enough to break out of any containment cell.
Dr. Pennington: Uhhhh, well, uh. Don't worry about it. I will make a call and double check what that is about. I'm sure it's nothing.
Dr. Vasquez: We don't even know what kind of magic he has.
Dr. Macgregor: We know he has the pages from that Gun Magic book… What kind of gun blows up plane… Very dangerous.
Dr. Pennington: Enough! We don't have all day here. Morris and Cartwright, how did your studies go?
Dr. Morris: Well, we were able to produce a few runic symbols using the lens. These symbols can be used within circular patterns, not unlike alchemy.
Dr. Vasquez: Can this be used to perform magic?
Dr. Morris: Yes, presumably. We haven't dared test that yet. We need to study it more before we try it out, but I'd imagine it works similar to using alchemy circles.
Dr. Cartwright: Additionally, the goggles allow vision of 'ethereal organs' which are apparent external segments of the human body that all humans possess. They are only visible through this lens, and they are absolutely fascinating.
Dr. Macgregor: Is possible that the 'ether organs' are not actually real, only imaginary images created by lens? I do not think everyone simple had these organs on their body for all time, and then now suddenly they are accessible through this lens from alternate reality traveller.
Dr. Cartwright: Well of course, but it's our job to study under the presumption that the organs actually matter.
Dr. Macgregor: I suppose so.
Dr. Cartwright: Well, how did study of the pamphlet go?
Dr. Macgregor: The pamphlet is quite ludicrous. Does not shut up about United States.
Dr. Vasquez: Pardon?
Dr. Pennington: The pamphlet seems to be a guide for diplomacy between RPC-009 and people of our reality. It's written in a very offbeat way. Not much else to say. I suppose it provides some insight into how the ALTR-MTGS world operates but not in a clear sense.
Dr. Mccann: I believe that's it for the recap, then? What's next?
Dr. Pennington: I believe we should focus on studying the explicit thaumaturgic elements while we wait for the English translation of RPC-009-2 to come through. We need to learn more about these ethereal organs. They may be the most important part of this magic system.
Dr. Mccann: Yes, I agree completely.
Dr. Pennington: I think we are ready to get back to work. We won't be breaking up into teams this time so we will not need to record another meeting like this. Also, I will try find out about that plane that got blown up. I'm sure it is nothing but I will let you know the details.
[END LOG]
Closing Statement: Following this interview, two weeks were spent studying the RPC-009 ethereal organs which are documented in the tabview below. A few test logs and notes are included within some of the sections. Afterward, a proper testing initiative took place to test the acquired knowledge.
