Such a cool idea. Not sure why its an Alpha class though, if it were up for review for Neutralized classification, I'd think it would be Gamma before then.
Well, the point is that the immediate threat of GoI-998 invading has been gone for the better part of 70 years and the field has never been nearly as active since the Pacific Fleet fucked 'em up. Without the field causing anything anomalous, all that's really left to do is prevent people from running across the irradiated husks of their strike fleet, bring them in and study the heck out of them, which isn't a very resource or containment-intensive task compared to some I could think of.*
*Admittedly, salvaging very large ships is no mean feat, which is why the recovery of GoI-998 wrecks has been proceeding so slowly.
Half of the description is in the Containment portion of the article. If "the main reality distortion field has been considered neutralized since 8/7/1953" Then that means it has been pending reclassification for over 60 years. Also I think this would constitute a Gamma class or at least a Beta class due to it's uncontainable nature. So maybe Gamma pending reclassification to Neutralized.
This is what I think should be in the Containment Protocols:
Oceanographic mapping efforts, tours, cruises, diving expeditions and other marine traffic must be monitored in order to direct them away from RPC-998 and its immediate environs to avoid civilian contact with sensitive materials. All RPC-998 salvaging efforts are organized at and based from the Authority naval base AH-22; there is a small research wing housing all twelve recovered vessels and which serves as the site for researching this salvage. All research teams assigned to be on-site at RPC-998 have standing orders to alert the chain of command immediately should the field once again enter a phase of greater activity.
Everything else in the Containment sectoin should go into the description.
The term "starting point" could be changed to "staging ground" or "staging point."
I'm not sure how I feel about such portable and seemingly ubiquitous reality bending technology. Otherwise I like the concept of invasion like this.
Man, rereading this is interesting- it sets up so many lore tidbits that have since been basically forgotten about; what is the Authority's Ontological division, for instance?
I love the vernacular and I love how it’s using both what is said and what isn’t said to make the story better.
Such is life in the Soviet Union
