Orange anomalies tend to be my favorites. This one has a lot to it that makes it interesting, plus, unfortunately, a certain amount that misses hard. Tomato put it pretty well, and I can mostly restate what he said: the first addendum builds upon the beginning perfectly, the second isn't terrible but is really unnecessary and demands my patience, and the third is just weak.
Addendum three felt like it was trying to throw me into a longer story that I, the reader, never really wanted, but then it stops before that story starts. Besides, the "self-aware anomaly" is a clichéd development that needs an original spin (e.g. RPC-930) to work. I mean, if the author really wanted to extend it, it's actually disappointing that this is the best story hook they could use. There's the Communist Party of China torturing people for up to "253 days" over their chosen seating, but that wasn't interesting enough to further?
The article also explains itself a little too much.
From 689’s view, we’re stopping it from making sure justice prevails in a demented kind of way.
This dialogue feels condescending. Incidentally, I don't feel like the "disproportionate punishment" gimmick is all that funny, but I actually like it more that way; one could view it as a particularly avant-garde social commentary, and the concepts that I can't make heads or tails of tend to be the most memorable.
If this article ended with the first addendum, it would be a lot better. None of this is to discredit the quality of the beginning, which really did sell me. Logs are very hard to do, but you hit the nail on the head. The detail of "pregnancy between 1 to 4 months" is superb as well (at least until it gets spelled out in the second addendum :/).
Overall, I'm definitely going to remember the strong points of this article over the negative ones. Not bad. 4/5
