Item #: RPC-148
Object Class: Alpha Neutralized
Hazard Types: Ideological Hazard
Containment Protocols: RPC-148 is to be kept in a standard containment locker in Site-███. RPC-148 is not to be read by Research or Security personnel. RPC-148 is to be only accessed with the approval of Facility Management with the express intention of testing. As of ██/██/20██, RPC 148 is to be marked as neutralized. No further testing is required.
Description: RPC-148 is a book wrapped in a non-anomalous black cloth embroidered with a golden Black Sun logo. The book itself is constructed from a mixture of skins from different animals including █████. The book is written in a mix of Proto Norse and ████, and has been radiocarbon dated to 7██ AD.
The book’s anomalous properties manifest themselves when subjects read a passage from it. Regardless of the language known to the user, the text is readable and is understood by the reader. Subjects report a sense of pride when reading passages from the book and describe differing versions of a folk tale regarding a hero, designated RPC-148-1, in the region of █████ who slew a series of monsters to ensure the safety of his village.
Each tale has several features that remain constant:
- RPC-148-1's name is rarely mentioned. When asked about the name, subjects are unable to recall it, claiming 'It's not important to the story'.
- The weapon that RPC-148-1 uses is described as a ‘sword of blazing iron, forged by the Gods’. Several tales have shown this to be a possible RPC item in its own right, displaying the ability to increase its surface temperature to ignite the air around it and fire █████ ██████.
- RPC-148-1 succumbs to his wounds from the battle at the end of each story and is buried alongside his weapon by the grateful townsfolk, with a capstone on his tomb detailing his exploits.
After finishing the tale, subjects experience an audio-visual hallucination of a rocky outcrop overlooking a glacier and a marker for a tomb, designated RPC-148-2, sealed with a capstone. Further testing has shown that successive subjects gain further information pertinent to the location of RPC-148-2, with common features including the sound of the sea nearby, and the ice receding slightly when the book is read in months corresponding to Summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
RPC-148 was recovered by RPC agents following the end of World War 2. Following an agreement with the British and American governments, RPC agents were authorized to debrief SS Ahnenerbe members and investigate objects of paranormal significance in the Western Allied controlled areas following the collapse of the Third Reich. The object in question was recovered from SS Sturmbannführer E██████ R███████ after he handed himself in to a British Military Checkpoint and requested to speak with Allied Military Command.
Interviewed: SS Sturmbannführer E██████ R███████
Interviewer: Colonel J███████ C████
Foreword: Interview between Colonel J███████ C████, RPC military Attache to Allied Military Command and SS Sturmbannführer E██████ R███████.
<Begin Log, May 10th, 1945>
J███████ C████: A cigarette?
E██████ R███████: Danke.
The sound of a lighter being opened and lit can be heard. Several heavy breaths follow.
J███████ C████: Why drive half way across Europe to get to us? Surely the Soviets would have given you amnesty, I’ve heard they are taking you boys in with glee, seeing as their own paranormal division was sorely lacking after the purges.
E██████ R███████: Yes, those who worked on nuclear programs, rockets and weaponizing the occult are being taken in. I am none of those.
J███████ C████: So, what are you then?
E██████ R███████: I was asked to delve into the secrets of our past. Any lead worth following I pursued to the ends of the Earth. The Soviets want no part in racial purity. They want an upper hand in the war to come. My work is not looked upon fondly. Especially considering my superior’s work in the camps.
J███████ C████: Alright. So, the book. Why have you driven from Poland, across Soviet territory, and given me this?
E██████ R███████: Because my superior has already sought to unlock its secrets. It drove him mad. He believed it would win the war in the east and get us what we wanted.
J███████ C████: Your superior is?
E██████ R███████: ███████ Wolf.
J███████ C████: Wolf died in the Caucasus when you attempted to open ███ ███████ ██████████.
E██████ R███████: No, the Soviets reported that he had died. Too much of a mess of anyone left for identification. They found some high ranking SS tags and assumed it was him. No, he was very much alive. He came back with most of his team missing or dead, and clutching the book. The cloth was his touch by the way.
J███████ C████: Ah yes, very Ahnenerbe of him.
E██████ R███████: He came back to the camp after the failure in the Caucasus, started making claims about winning the war with weapons from the gods. A lot of us talked like that though, since we were all engrossed in our work. Except, he started testing on prisoners with the book. Only the Aryan looking ones, worthy of Germanisation. Each had a vision after it and he’d get them to write it down.
J███████ C████: Then what?
E██████ R███████: He killed them.
E██████ R███████: After the first few, he worked out that a single person has a single vision. Why keep them around if they do not work any longer? Do you have another cigarette Colonel?
The sound of a cigarette case being opened and the lighter being used again is heard.
J███████ C████: How many used the book?
E██████ R███████: In total? He let ████ prisoners use the book. He managed to get what he wanted. Said he had the location.
J███████ C████: And when was that?
E██████ R███████: February. Shortly after, he disappeared. He left the book and some of his notes. I don’t know why he left the book. He had clung onto it over anything else. We got our first look at it and were disgusted, but, intrigued.
J███████ C████: Where did he go?
E██████ R███████: I don’t know. The notes just said North.
After this interview, RPC-148 was classified as Beta. Involuntary Personnel were utilized to test the object first. After no adverse side effects were noted, testing was opened up to Voluntary Personnel as well and the item was downgraded to Alpha classification.
After approximately ████ subjects were utilized in the testing of RPC-148, a map of the locale was built up. Cross referencing with satellite imagery, RPC Researchers determined that the location of RPC-148-2 was either in ███████, Svalbard, ██████████████, Franz Josef Land or █████, Greenland. Further data relating to culture group locations at the time of the books creation ruled out the locations in Svalbard or Franz Josef Land. On ██/██/20██, RPC Authority approved an expedition to █████, Greenland to search for RPC-148-2.
After several weeks of searching, RPC Researchers deduced the location of RPC-148-2. On arriving at RPC-148-2, RPC Researchers discovered a skeleton that had been exhumed. DNA evidence and radiocarbon dating proved difficult as the skeleton had been exposed to the elements for an extended period, causing the material to decay. The skeleton was taken back to Site-███ for testing.
Following testing, the skeleton was determined to be the body of RPC-148-1. RPC-148-1 showed no deviation from non-anomalous human skeletons. No objects seen in the audio-visual hallucination that had been buried with RPC-148-1 were discovered in the area of RPC-148-2. The only other item in the vicinity of RPC-148-2 was the stone covering the entrance to RPC-148-1's tomb, now designated RPC-148-3, which was covered in Proto Nordic script referring to several battles that RPC-148-1 had been present in.
Following these discoveries, RPC-148 is deemed neutralised.
Previous indications of Neutralisation of RPC 148 are deemed false. Information entered to main database entry has been falsified as per standard information containment protocols. Accurate entries of Greenland research team to follow:
On arrival to RPC-148-2, researchers and the tactical team found 12 skeletons and extensive digging equipment. RPC-148-3 had been breached and partially destroyed. Remnants of RPC-148-3 were taken back to Site- ███ for study. Expedition Researchers deciphered part of RPC-148-3 whilst at RPC-148-2:
Here lies unreadable. His (crimes/lies) uncountable. His (punishment/sentence) eternal.
The interior of the tomb was comprised of granite mixed with ████████, scored with what appear to be blows from a bladed weapon, alongside extensive charring of the stone work inside.
Outside, digging equipment and construction supplies were found. Markings matched Wehrmacht and Waffen SS equipment produced by Germany during World War 2. All 12 skeletons were clothed in the remnants of standard issue Waffen-SS Uniforms. Of the 12, 3 had died due to blunt force trauma. Injuries were consistent with a kick from an adult human male, however, damage sustained to the skeletons indicated a force far in excess than a normal adult male can produce. 5 had died due to stab or slash wounds. The remaining 4 displayed evidence of charring similar in pattern to the stonework inside the tomb. Spent shell casings and discarded MP44 submachine guns were also present.
Found among the bodies was a leather notebook, heavily degraded, emblazoned with the runic SS insignia. Of the 210 pages present, only one had been written in.

We edge ever closer to unsealing the tomb. 13 of us present to witness the birth of a new world order. I shudder to think of the possibilities.
