|
Containment Protocols: RPC-578 is to be contained within a standard large containment unit fitted with impact-resistant glass connecting an observation deck, and RPC-578 is to be located along the opposite wall. RPC-578 must be placed on a standard large pallet and secured onto it using no less than 3 pallet safety straps to permit safe relocation of RPC-578 via forklift. The aforementioned straps must be:
- secured over the top of the frame of RPC-578,
- secured across the 5cm dimension of the frame, and
- distributed equidistantly from each other to maintain a consistent secure hold.
All containment technicians entrusted with this task must exercise extreme caution not to insert any body part into the inside of RPC-578.1
No less than three ten Class A-2 amnestics are to be placed within an emergency amnestics locker located within the observation deck.
In the event of unauthorized RPC-578-1 exposure, ASF personnel are to be immediately notified and briefed on the nature of the containment breach. They are then to equip Encapsulated Level A Hazmat suits and are authorized to administer only Class A-2 amnestics to the appropriate RPC-578-A instances. Instances must be handled in a calm and consoling manner in order to elongate the time until egress. Amnesticized RPC-578-A instances are to be quarantined for a period of 12 hours since the last observation of remaining signs of RPC-578-1, and are subsequently to be removed of RPC-578-A classification.
Instances of RPC-578-2 are to be handled using any tool that grants personnel at least 12 feet of separation. An 8-meter-wide large shutter door is to be installed in the RPC-578 containment chamber to connect to another standard large containment unit for the purposes of storing instances of RPC-578-2. This chamber requires Level 3 access under the sole purpose of storing additional instances.
Testing of RPC-578 is not permitted without written approval from Level 4 personnel.
RPC-578.
Description: RPC-578 is the designation for a metal frame measuring 230cm by 146cm by 28.8cm in dimension, with a 34cm moulding. X-ray fluorescence testing indicates that RPC-578 is composed of 99.7% tungsten metal. Weld marks cover a seam along the middle of RPC-578, indicating a previous fusion of two frames into one. RPC-578 displays signs of consistent degradation and surface contamination, although from what source has not been ascertained; the surface of RPC-578 is covered with what appears to be the residue from tape and other adhesive equipment, and consistent scoring and gouging is observed across RPC-578.
The hazardous nature of RPC-578 prevents the thorough cleaning of its surface.
RPC-578 is braced with 4 black circumferential clamps made of PA66-GF30 composite2 on its left and right sides. 12 colored wires cover one side of the vertical surface of RPC-578, constrained by and/or emerging from its clamps, many of which are frayed and splay outward. Testing has confirmed that none of these wires are live. RPC-578 is mounted on four black steel diagonally-strutted gusset brackets fixed at 90 degrees to its base, and extend outward by 42cm to allow it to stand upright.
Despite appearing to be man-made, no fingerprint residue has been identified on RPC-578. The only intelligible marking on RPC-578 consists of simplified Chinese characters printed on white tape. The exact meaning of which is hard to ascertain, but provisionally translates to

Discovered RPC-578-2 instance. Viscera redacted.
RPC-578's effect is triggered when any living dermis or bone tissue passes through its opening. All tissue demonstrating the effect is designated RPC-578-1. RPC-578-1 is described as an immediate deteriorative physical expansion in all directions resulting in an observable increasing transparency of the body, the severity of which scales with time. Investigation under microscopy demonstrates that the space between all atoms expand, despite no observable force nor structure to keep affected atoms together. Furthermore, the effect propagates across the rest of the body save for visceral and vascular tissue over time, starting from the initial exposure site. Subjects exposed to RPC-578-1 are to be considered persona exuta and designated RPC-578-A. The final stages of RPC-578-1 invariably results in the termination of all RPC-578-A instances, marked by conversion into RPC-578-2. RPC-578-1 and therefore RPC-578-2 are contagious through contact.
The expanded body cells of RPC-578-1 display a remarkable visual effect that does not comport with scientific understanding of material expansion, RPC-578-1/2 become fully transparent and invisible. RPC-578-1/2 can only be seen through its effect on the objects that are behind it; specifically optically-diffusing objects behind it in a manner most consistent with a digital image-processing blur convolution.3
Below is a chronological description of the effects of RPC-578-1, including psychological report of RPC-578-A instances.

Post-egress, RPC-578-A is designated RPC-578-2. After this, instances appear to span roughly 3m in diameter in a spheroidal shape, and begin to float due to buoyancy.
It is to be documented that RPC-578-1 onset is highly psychosomatic. The mental state of RPC-578-A instances directly affects the rate of RPC-578-1 progression. While standard completion to RPC-578-2 requires an average of 30 minutes, instances that assume a calm, measured disposition (or even one that is apathetic if possible) consistently slow the progression to RPC-578-2 to several hours. By contrast, exceptionally anxious and fearful instances of RPC-578-A complete within 7 minutes on average, with one recorded instance achieving egress within 15 seconds.4 It is possible to completely and permanently reverse the effect of RPC-578-1 with high-grade amnestics if treated in time. No less than class A-2 amnestics are authorized for recovery, and under absolutely no circumstances are Class-T5 amnestics authorized to be used to treat RPC-578-1 (See Addendum: AX-1).
Addendum AX-1
Routine provisional testing of RPC-578 on 6/12/2026 inadvertently resulted in the exposure of one Researcher █████ Angler to RPC-578-1. Having been familiar with standard RPC-578 containment protocols, Mr. Angler displayed remarkable composure despite the imminent threat on his life. Being aware of the psychosomatic property of RPC-578-1 progression, Mr. Angler was able to slow the time until egress to an estimated period of 38 hours, and was noted as behaving so tactfully that he was reportedly reminding personnel to refer to him as RPC-578-A-31. RPC-578-1 reached 15% propagation phase before personnel were fully equipped with personal protective equipment to administer amnestics to the unaffected lower hip of Mr. Angler. The effects of RPC-578-1 emancipated within 12 minutes, and Mr. Angler's RPC-578-A classification was revoked once quarantine was no longer deemed necessary. Mr. Angler was commended for his behavior and returned to normal duties within the week.
On 6/23/2026, Mr. Angler's brain and viscera were found in his personal quarters directly below an instance of RPC-578-2.
It was later reported to the Office of Ethics and Review that responding ASF personnel "lacked the appropriate amnestics to respond" to the situation posed by the minor containment breach, despite it later being ascertained that the Site's amnestic containment reserves were nominal according to inventory records. It was determined that responding ASF personnel would not, in fact, "lack the appropriate amnestics to respond" if they simply meandered over to the South Wing of the Site where plenty of life-saving amnestics are consolidated.
The investigation ascertained that because the dedicated in-room emergency amnestics locker was not stocked as per operational due diligence, that containment personnel expediently deployed the use of at-the-time proximate Class-T amnestics. It was ruled that Mr. Angler's disposition had permitted more than enough time for containment personnel to retrieve the appropriate amnestics, and yet his efforts were made in vain since he had mistakenly placed his trust in the Containment Department of his Site. The Office concludes with great disappointment that the loss of life is patently attributed to a lethal and highly immoral lack of operational diligence on the part of Site containment personnel.

It is the Authority's best estimate that the effects of the Class-T amnestics administered to Mr. Angler had worn off, and he had remembered his exposure to RPC-578-1. It is believed this resulted in the re-manifestation of RPC-578-1.
The time until egress for Mr. Angler is not known, but it is theorized that the interval did not permit him to notify any containment teams.
Addendum AX-2: It has been discovered that instances of RPC-578-2 universally emit radio-frequency electromagnetic waves in the 300 GHz band in a manner that is physically impossible. The emissions occur in discrete, packet-like bursts resembling Wi-Fi traffic, albeit at an incredibly high frequency that is uncharacteristic and ostensibly impractical for such a purpose. The emissions are not attenuated, scattered, or occluded by intervening physical obstructions despite their approximately 1 mm wavelength. These emissions are formed in the rough shape of an approximately 1.25-meter-diameter cylindrical emission envelope that appears to point in a manner that suggests deliberate targeting, and changes frequently. The intended recipient(s) of these packets are, at this time, unknown, however RPC-578-2 instances have been recorded as receiving responses from the same direction, and RPC-578-2 instances are even documented to have communicated between each other. Decryption of these intercepted signals has remained unsuccessful.
RPC-578-2 do not respond to any stimulus, with the sole exception that they are known to seldom attempt to communicate with Wi-Fi access points such as wireless routers within ~20 meters. Research into attempting communication in this manner is ongoing.

REPORT DESCRIPTION:

Triangulation of inbound and outbound RPC-578-2 packets has resulted in the discovery of a number of RPC-578-2 instances underneath a disused coastal overpass along the outskirts of Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines. Nine instances were discovered resting upon the underside of the overpass. Upon arrival, each instance appeared to be contained within lightweight white bags, the make and model of which have remained unidentified, but have been identified to be composed of a custom Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) composite. Each bag featured a zipper spanning both poles of the object, and were apparently such that they could completely seal RPC-578-2 within its roughly spherical enclosure. In addition, each bag featured metal protrusions terminating in single-pin male DC terminals, and were distributed icosahedrally across the surface. At the time of discovery, one such terminal for all bags were in use and all connected to a crudely-maintained Ingco 4500W/4.5kva GE45005-5P Gasoline Generator. Both outlets of the generator had been plugged in with two power strips, which were almost fully in use by the tangle of cords that hung upward to connect to the RPC-578-2 array.
It is to be noted that the build and condition of the aforementioned bags differs from any material that could be hypothetically sourced from nearby resources; they are free of surface contamination and wear, and are made of a high-grade material only available for commercial industrial use that is not commonly used in the region. The extent of which, remarkably, is such that the obscurity of the bonded seams and proprietary weave structure survives identification against all known manufacturers.
The investigation discovered multiple trails of blood and visceral cellular matter leading into the river at the center of the overpass, and a single blood-stained broom. DNA testing confirms the presence of multiple individual sources.

A single crudely-maintained Windows 7 Desktop office computer was also discovered to be connected to the power arrangement. It featured a single monitor, an office keyboard, a mouse, and mouse-pad, the condition of all suggesting it was sourced haphazardly and without care for long-term use. The device and its peripherals are believed to have been collated in short order specifically for a purpose related to the interaction with RPC-578-2-23 through 31. The investigation demonstrates the operation of the device by an as-of-yet-unidentified person of interest. Analysis of the device after confiscation confirms a short history of usage, with little files being located on the device save for few intentionally-corrupted files on the desktop. Appears to be a single file serving as a multi-purpose personal record. Spelling mistakes and similar errors pervade the entire poorly-formatted document. Based on the intact segments of the file, it has been understood to contain:
- Eating habits.
- Contacts.
- Government names of locals for a specific purpose.
- A list of instructions.
The exact nature of the last of which cannot be reliably ascertained, but is believed to be related to the setup, deployment, and maintenance of the prior RPC-578-2 enclosure bags. It is written in simplified Chinese, and then translated into English. The duplication of the instructions in this way greatly assisted de-obfuscation by providing more chances for intact portions of the instructions to survive corruption.
The eating habits and contacts suggest that the file author is or was a local to Davao City, and is or was living in the bottom economic bracket. Acquisition of contacts is grossly complicated by the population density of their place of residence. Efforts are nonetheless underway.
Though corrupted, the length of text associated with each government name scales in order.

This directory contains 18 .txt files. Based on the file contents they are believed to be logs written to the directory by farsoft_interc__x86-64.exe. Each log is accompanied by another file of the same name suffixed with "-THANK-YOU".

The files in projections/ are believed to be connected to the contents of this directory.
According to the contents of the seized device, it is the Authority's best theory that the unidentified PoI received communication from some entity connected to RPC-578 and "Farsoft System" for the purposes of integrating human subjects within a network of some kind that is only accessible to RPC-578-2 instances. It is believed that the packets which RPC-578-2 emits and receives can be decrypted by farsoft_interc__x86-64.exe and the contents within extracted/ capture a small portion of them. The packets that are decrypted by farsoft_interc__x86-64.exe are also, for some reason, subsequently broadcasted on public networks at high volumes. This greatly enabled the Authority to triangulate the source of the emissions.
The contents of the device suggest that the consciousness of RPC-578-A are copied or transferred into RPC-578-2 through unknown means, providing access to some network not connected to the internet that is owned by the as-of-yet unidentified "Farsoft System." It is believed that the unidentified PoI had, after integrating the 9th subject,7 left farsoft_interc__x86-64.exe open continuously and fled the scene. It is not known whether the unidentified PoI did this purposefully or not. It is not known whether "Farsoft System" are responsible for the creation of RPC-578.
Efforts are ongoing to recreate farsoft_interc__x86-64.exe, locate the unidentified PoI for interrogation, and determine the true contents of the network.
