Registered Phenomena Code: 608
Object Class: Gamma-Orange
Hazard Types: Animated, Aggression, Transmutation, Info-Hazard, Visual, Auditory, Mind Control
Containment Protocols: Material depicting RPC-608 shall be considered hazardous and remain restricted to Level 4R/4C security clearance. Personnel are to receive memetic evaluation prior to and following access of these materials. Clearly affected personnel will be assigned to therapy until considered mentally sound. Authority Database technicians are to perform data recovery on alterable files bi-weekly and following reports of major alteration.
Containment personnel in the Teton Mountain Range are to establish maps of RPC-608's movements and activity. 2 L2 CSD personnel equipped with tracking chips, handheld transceivers, air horns, and strobe lights are to assist in warding RPC-608 away from areas of high civilian activity. These personnel are to operate under the guise of Wyoming game wardens.
A modified large organism containment chamber designed for RPC-608 has been prepared at Site-056. All ventilation and windows have been removed. A chute installed in the ceiling for the purpose of food delivery additionally possesses a double door mechanism to block entry attempts. A system of pressure and movement sensors throughout the chamber monitor activity within. Testing is ongoing if dummy humans can be used in place of CSD subjects for food.
An artificial memetic agent is under development to counteract RPC-608's memetic effects. In the event that RPC-608 is contained, it will be disseminated to the public as a preemptive measure against the spread of hazardous materials and the threat to informational security they pose.
Description: RPC-608 is an animate, ovoid mass of granite and marble. It is 3.4 meters tall, 2 meters in diameter, with 3 prehensile tendrils emerging from its base that are each 2 meters long. RPC-608 is capable of manipulating the rigidity of its form at will. This allows it greater accessibility into confined and narrow spaces while hunting. Samples of it revert to mundane stone upon removal from its main mass. Damage it sustains does not heal. As a result it is currently missing an estimated 26% of its original mass.
Damage upon it has allowed views into its interior revealing no organic structures within. In spite of not needing sustenance, RPC-608 has been documented engaging in the hunting of human subjects every 4 to 7 months, and becoming increasingly aggressive the longer time is between successful hunts. During hunting periods, it will identify, track, terminate, and violently desecrate the bodies of 2 to 6 subjects. Termination typically takes the form of decapitation. Once satisfied, RPC-608 will enter into a docile state that will persist until the next hunting period.
Additionally of note, RPC-608 behaves similarly to ambush predators during hunting periods, utilizing its form to camouflage into the geology surrounding it so that it may attack prey subjects by surprise. It will, however, commonly flee when it believes it has been spotted. Such responses are more intense when faced with strong stimuli such as loud sounds and bright, flashing lights.
RPC-608 exhibits an infohazardous property which causes all documentation of its appearance, physical and digital, to be altered to reflect information regarding its most recent hunt. This will universally include the general location, victim names and depictions of their death, and general timing. These alterations also include auditory and visual memetic hazards which compel subjects to investigate RPC-608's existence. Thaumaturgic reinforcements to the Authority Database have proven to hinder this alteration process, but not eliminate it. Research is ongoing into exactly what components play the most part in this hindrance and how they can be reinforced.
RPC-608 was first identified following the upload of a YouTube video titled "Teton Mountain Cryptid" on ██/11/22. The first 40 seconds of the 1 minute long video displayed multiple newspaper articles regarding a series of 3 disappearances and 2 murders which had occurred in the Teton Mountains of Wyoming in August earlier that year. The last 20 seconds of the video alternated between pictures of the forest and a singular image of the remains of a currently unidentified individual. 3 of the pictures displayed parts of RPC-608, which was pursuing the photographer at the time they were taken.
The video accrued 120 views prior to being taken down by Authority webcrawlers, which detected the presence of auditory and visual memetic hazards. A follow-up investigation led to the discovery of an independent reporter by the name of ███████ Arbuckle. He had obtained footage of RPC-608 from a currently unidentified local and was attempting to spread it to expose the existence of the anomalous.
His home has since been searched by field agents and found vacant. His current whereabouts are unknown.
The following individuals were terminated by RPC-608 between the dates of April 15 and May 5 of 2023. The Authority is currently providing cover stories to the public and searching for their remains. Their names, current descriptions, dates of death, and reasons for their presence are displayed below.

The following is a personal journal entry written by Vespucci prior to his ambushing by RPC-608. It is dated to April 25.
I spoke to the head researcher, they gave it a code now. Six Zero Eight. I wonder how many other names this thing has had. I've been looking around. Checking remains and doing some spelunking. This thing is old. Ancient even. According to some journals I've found, the natives had some really obscure stories about it. None of them are consistent about its nature. Some said a demon. Others a ghost. One group called it a child of the gods. Whatever the answer, it was lost long ago.
I've narrowed down what I think was its origin. An abandoned mineshaft that the townspeople say is bear infested. Nonsense, it must be 608's home. I know I'll find all the answers there.
I know it wants to stop me. I've started encountering it more and more. I've seen it, shifting around in the brush near me. Hiding in the crevices of the rocks. Oh, but a few gunshots is enough to scare it away. It is no ghost or monster. It is a creature. An intelligent, sadistic, and hungry one at that. One that must be studied. And I will be the one to ensure that study succeeds.
It will be my defining moment. My crowning achievement. Oh, the accolades I will gain. The promotion I will surely receive.
I just need the right moment. I've held off informing the others. Violation of protocol, maybe, but fortune favors those who seize it. I'm going to slip off on my own the first chance I can get to find that mine. I must find it. It holds everything.
Don't you worry 608. I will understand you soon enough.

04:43:15 - Arbuckle can be heard murmuring to himself from out of frame as camera is pointed to the dilapidated and overgrown entrance of an abandoned mine. It is midday and the sunshine illuminates the first twenty feet into the shaft.
04:43:40 - Rustling can be heard emanating from nearby foliage. Camera is turned to face the source of the sound, white being briefly visible in the bushes. Arbuckle freezes in place and his breathing becomes uneven. Camera is shaking.
04:45:32 - Camera is turned back to the entrance and Arbuckle sprints inside. Camera's light is used to maintain visibility as he goes past the range of the sunlight. The sounds of his footsteps and breathing are echoing throughout the shaft. Camera is almost dropped at three points due to him stumbling over abandoned equipment or human remains. At five points, a divide in the path is reached and the leftmost option is taken.
04:52:49 - A dead end is reached and movement stops. Camera is set on the ground, facing back down the path taken. Papers shifting, clicking, heavy breathing, and pacing can be heard from out of frame as Arbuckle begins reviewing notes and maps. RPC-608 can be seen flattened against the ceiling and slowly approaching before fleeing from the light of the camera. No sound of acknowledgement is heard.
04:54:11 - Camera is lifted back up and movement begins again. Arbuckle can be heard verbally repeating a series of turns to himself. He turns the camera to face himself so he may wipe off the lens. He appears exhausted and disheveled. While walking he stops to examine various sets of human remains. Some are much further into decomposition than others and cause him to gag as they are approached.
05:09:49 - A notebook recovered from one of the corpses is presented to the camera. The contents of the pages are rapidly being altered to reflect information regarding Arbuckle's current location and condition. He can be heard cursing in a confused manner. Camera is jerked upwards when a sudden cracking sound can be heard emanating from far behind him. The notebook is dropped and he continues deeper into the shaft.
05:13:50 - A destroyed gate is reached in the shaft. Strewn about minecarts and broken wood beams point towards there having been an attempt to barricade it. Arbuckle stops briefly to rotate the camera before continuing.
05:17:03 - Another dead end is reached. A rusted pickaxe caked in dried blood lies on the ground in front of a ten inch wide and thirty-two inch tall crack in the wall. Another wall is visible deeper inside with light of the camera.
05:17:47 - Camera is pushed through the crack and rotated inside, revealing it to be shaped precisely like RPC-608. Camera is removed and shifting of papers is heard as Arbuckle begins to take notes.
05:18:10 - Camera falls to the ground and its lens cracks as Arbuckle is pulled backwards. He briefly begins to yell in distress and pain before the tearing of flesh fills the mineshaft. After three seconds, camera is lifted by one of RPC-608's tendrils.
