RPC-822

Containment Protocols: RPC-822 is to be contained in a safe locker on its current designated site. Its usage for testing requires direct approval Dr. Cabello Prof. Colins.

RPC-822's anomalous property caught the interest of the █████ University, currently collaborating with the Department of Psychology. It is advised personnel ask the staff at █████ University for permission before meeting RPC-822-2 so as to not obstruct their research.

Description: RPC-822 is a pair of crudely-made cardboard sunglasses held together by tape. RPC-822’s lenses are made of an unknown material resembling yellow polypropylene plastic.1 Several small yellow dots are drawn all over the plastic-like lenses. On the left side of RPC-822, the Korean name: 관숭아 (Gwansung-a) is written in blue ink. The view through RPC-822 is delayed by several seconds, and subjects wearing the object consistently report feeling disoriented.

An abstract, invisible entity designated RPC-822-1 follows RPC-822, only visible through RPC-822. It initially appears as an amorphous silhouette of phosphene2 obstructing the subject's vision. Prolonged observation of RPC-822-1 will lead subjects to develop symptoms of sleep deprivation.3

After a few minutes, RPC-822-1 will slowly morph to resemble the subject's childhood imaginary friend. Subjects can not only see RPC-822-1 but also hear, touch, and smell the entity as well. By this time, the visually harmful effects of RPC-822 have dissipated. RPC-822-1 will not transform for subjects that never had an imaginary friend, subjects diagnosed with aphantasia,4 nor children under the age of 11. Depending on the entity's personality, it may develop a close bond with the subject, with the relationship often being described as nostalgic. Subjects are unable to distinguish RPC-822-1 from real entities. Subjects feel an aversion to removing the object, and attempts at coercion have resulted in outbursts inconsistent with their prior mental state. RPC-822-1 dematerializes after 3 days. At its final hours, RPC-822-1 will bid its subject goodbye before transforming back to an amorphous entity. Subjects are unable to remember RPC-822-1 after it has demanifested, but they consistently report feelings of contentment.

Subject Designation Description
CSD-7364 822-1DV Described as a 1 m tall teddy bear speaking in an Australian accent. CSD-7364 regularly hugs the entity in his mind, and calls it "Bubby". Subject depicts the entity as a paternal figure, always there for him.
CSD-4823 822-1JH Described as a timid child hiding under a large blanket. CSD-4823 rarely converses with the entity but always stays by its side.
Dr. Murphy 822-2UC Described as a white, goblin-like creature with a wooden club. Subject regularly laughs at the entity's attempt to scare him. Subject states: "My mother used to warn me of a goblin that would beat naughty children up. I used to be scared of that story, but looking at him now… I was a dumb kid."
Prof. Colins 822-2HV Described as an intelligent Aptenodytes forsteri5 with a red bow-tie. The entity encourages Prof. Collins in his studies and comforts him whenever he's in distress.

A theory by Dr. Murphy states that RPC-822-1 is but a projection of the wearer's abstract thoughts given form through RPC-822's lenses—RPC-822-1 is an envoy to the wearer’s subconscious mind. Furthermore, it states that RPC-822-1 is not a tulpa-like entity like first assumed, but an abstract symbol, concept, prototype, and rule given the form of a familiar image (that being the imaginary friend). Although no more than an illusion, the tangible good that RPC-822-1 provides to its subjects is undeniable.

Ironically, the theory that RPC-822-1 is a mental projection of our subconscious has opened a lot more doors to us than if it was some… trans-dimensional ghost. From studying how subjects interact with a projection of their childhood's ideal archetypal figure, we've learned a lot of things about child development and the unconscious mind. We even got to test a few Freudian theories. This all wouldn't have been possible without our friends at █████ University.

-Dr. Cabello on a journalistic report interview regarding the Department of Psychology's collaboration with █████ University.

Addendum 822.1: About RPC-882-2
As of 5/2/2017, it was discovered that RPC-822-1 had another transformational phase, designated as RPC-822-2. RPC-822-2 appears to all subjects that wear RPC-822 for a period of 2-3 weeks. Unlike RPC-822-1, RPC-822-2 is a concrete entity with a will of its own, independent from the subject’s personal projection. RPC-822-1 will manifest in only 3-7 days if its wearer never had an imaginary friend, or is under the age of 11.

The entity can interact with physical objects to a certain degree, moving objects and speaking (though, in low volume). Consequential actions such as these can only be taken when subjects directly view RPC-822-2, otherwise RPC-822-2 will follow the same rules as RPC-822-1.

RPC-822-2 takes the form of a Korean child, aged 8-11. RPC-822-2 is highly xenophobic,6 and will avoid subjects until they take the initiative to befriend it. RPC-822-2 is unaware of its own nature and its relation to RPC-822-1 or RPC-822. Any further confrontation of this idea will be met by a shrug of annoyance from RPC-822-2. At all times, RPC-822-2 carries a bag full of supplies. These supplies include paper, colored pencils, a clock, and a 3rd grade English textbook.

Addendum 822.2: Interview Log 822-2.6

Addendum 822.3: Discovery Log
RPC-822 was found in an old lost-and-found box in ██████ Elementary School, Seoul. Efforts to search Gwansunga has lead to the discovery of schoolwork and sketches related to RPC-822 dating back to 1990.

Addendum 822.4: Interview 822-2.11
Dr. Cabello and his team flew to ███, Seoul to meet PoI-822 personally and transact RPC-822 despite receiving warnings from █████ University against it.
