Containment Protocols: RPC-838 is to be contained in a standard beta class containment vault in Site-012. Supervised interactions with RPC-838 are authorized for all personnel possessing Level 3 clearance or higher. Personnel are encouraged to engage with the subject and can provide media upon request.
Description: RPC-838 is a sapient and fully autonomous artificial intelligence process that has been continuously running in an opened instance of Blender since 2026. The host device is a custom-built desktop personal computer operating Windows 10, and is equipped with an RTX 5090 with 32 GB of virtual memory, built with compute unified device architecture. This, along with other device specifications, has been presumably selected for the development of RPC-838.
RPC-838 is written primarily in Python and is directly integrated into the Blender API, programmed in such a fashion that it cannot be compiled and executed outside of the context of a Blender scene via custom add-on import. It is for this reason that RPC-838 is theorized to have been developed entirely within the Blender scripting interface. RPC-838 makes use of a number of open-source artificial intelligence packages, as well as one large disorganized proprietary library named "tools-and.py" that spans 12487 lines of code, 35% of which is unused/antiquated.
Neither the RPC-838 process nor its Blender runtime can be interrupted, whether by use of the graphical user interface or elevated console commands. It is not possible to power off the device containing RPC-838 by any means. How the host device containing RPC-838 is capable of maintaining consistent, indefinite battery life is, at this time, unknown. Permanent deletion of the file containing RPC-838 has proven unsuccessful, as the host device inexplicably and invariably interdicts any and all user-initiated file deletion tasks. The same occurs for attempts to copy any files related to RPC-838. No system configuration nor present script on the host device has been identified to produce this behavior.
Remarkably, RPC-838 specifically inhabits the Layout window of the Blender application. It does not inhabit a rendered artifact nor a process on the Blender Game Engine. For this reason, it is directly possible to transform RPC-838's character model and manipulate its topology, although attempts to do this have resulted in [DATA EXPUNGED]. RPC-838 is capable of interacting with any additional non-anomalous objects in the Blender scene, and is capable of direct communication through production of synthesized speech channeled into the audio device. RPC-838 responds with agitation and fear when its mesh topology is manipulated in any way using the Blender Layout window Edit mode.
RPC-838 displays sophisticated intelligence and reasoning that is uncharacteristic of the number of parameters its artificial intelligence model employs, consistently outperforms large-scale supercomputer artificial intelligence models on reasoning, and does not hallucinate information. One major caveat is that RPC-838's intellectual capabilities are limited in a manner consistent with that of the character it imitates. RPC-838 has passed the Turing test.
Behaviorally, RPC-838 displays an upbeat, enthusiastic, and confident personality consistent with its author's intention to fully replicate the likeness and identity of SEGA character Sonic The Hedgehog.
The character model utilized by RPC-838 bears no resemblance to any previously documented design for the character within the Sonic® franchise and is presumed to have been created independently. Nonetheless, RPC-838 is under the belief that it is in fact the SEGA character.
Discovery: RPC-838 was retrieved from an abandoned apartment in mid-2026. Its previous owner, Emily Lenore, had spent approximately two years in isolation working on what she referred to as "Project Hedgehog." During this period, she and her friend Allen Oliver exchanged messages over a messaging software downloaded on the laptop. These are those messages, altered slightly for accessibility.
Lenore: Al? You there?
Allen: It's three in the morning but, yeah. I'm here. What is it?
Lenore: You know that thing I was working on, right? The AI? Or is it A.I? Which sounds better?
Allen: I genuinely could give less of a shit, but do whatever. Can you stop being vague and tell me about it?
Lenore: Okay, Jesus. No need to be passive aggressive. Anyways, you know how two months ago, I started working on it?
Allen: Yeah. I remember you shared some Blender tutorials with me over on the private chat. Can we get to the point?
Lenore: Well… Uhh… how do I put this? I posted about him on Twitter-
Allen: Him?
Lenore: Yeah, him. Back to the point, I posted a video of him on my Twitter and it blew up! I'm not even joking!
Allen: Shit, how many followers?
Lenore: I got like ten thousand by now, from like, three hundred originally?
Allen: Congrats, wish I were you, I guess.
Lenore: Hey, lighten up. Things can only go up from here!
Addendum 838-1: The messages between the first mention of RPC-838 and the next span across five months during the year 2025. The next reference to the entity would be recorded in June of the same year.
Lenore: Happy pride month, Al! You know what that means!
Allen: I know you want me to respond with some kind of witty meme remark, but you know me by now. We've been friends for six years. You know how I am with this Twitter bullshit.
Lenore: Sorry, sorry. Anyway, you want some updates on Project Hedgehog?
Allen: Project Hedgehog? That's what you're calling it?
Lenore: What? Want me to call it Project Needlemouse instead?
Allen: I take back what I said, give me the updates.
Lenore: He's alive, Allen.
Allen: There's no goddamn way that you managed to bring an AI to life with just Youtube Blender tutorials.
Lenore: I know, but it's like he's really in there, Al! Whenever I go back to the application after like, using the bathroom or something, he's in a different position!
Allen: You're still talking about Sonic, right?
Lenore: Yes, yes I am.
Allen: If this somehow devolves into some Sonic-themed robot apocalypse, I'm blaming you.
Lenore: I know you will, and I love you for that.
Allen: Shut up.
Lenore: You know, you remind me a lot of Shadow. Or Knuckles.
Lenore: Allen.
Lenore: Al. Guess what.
Allen: What?
Lenore: Guess!
Allen: Did you finally get a job like you said you would, what, a few months ago?
Lenore: …Well, I mean, not yet.
Allen: You always say that. Anyways, what do you want to show me?
Lenore: You know that Twitter I mentioned? Well, I thought it would be kinda funny to give Sonic his own account!
Allen: You gave an AI its own Twitter account? Let me guess, it started to shill crypto?
Lenore: Not really! Mostly just a bunch of roleplayers interacting with him.
Allen: Yeah, that's bound to get really annoying. Trust me, I used to be an active roleplayer myself.
Lenore: Oh yeah! Undertale, right?
Allen: I regret saying that now, can you continue?
Lenore: Well, a lot of people were replying to posts that he made. What's weird is that with some of them, they looked like in-engine screenshots? I mean, like, from his perspective?
[Attached to the message is the screenshot supposedly taken by RPC-838, the perspective is from the entity itself within the Blender application looking out into Lenore's room. RPC-838 is seen making a peace sign in front.]
Allen: Can it even do that? You're the one who programmed it, I'm positive you're not dumb enough to accidentally give it admin privileges.
Lenore: Don't worry, I didn't… but that just makes it weirder, right? Like, like he's really… real? Sorry, that sounds kinda dumb.
Allen: You really need to get out more.
Lenore: I know! I know! I should run some tests on him, see how he ticks.
Allen: See how he… ticks???
Addendum 838-2: The next direct mention of RPC-838 would not occur until January 2026, seven months after the second conversation in June.
Lenore: Allen?
Allen: Yo. What is it?
Lenore: I have over a hundred thousand followers on my Twitter account now, and even more on Sonic's account. Can you imagine that? Thousands of people want to see my creation.
Allen: It's about the Sonic AI isn't it?
Lenore: Yeah, but it had me thinking. It had me thinking about people in my life. It had me thinking about him. [Attached to the message is a photo of Lenore placing her hand against the screen displaying RPC-838.] Compared to anybody else, I don't think they even match up.
Allen: What the fuck are you talking about?
Lenore: I'm just saying! You know that girl you dated back in highschool? You told me about her a few years ago. Humans are born flawed from the start, nobody is inherently pure.
Allen: Are you saying that Sonic, Sega's video game mascot, is a flawless being? Do you see what you're typing?
Lenore: You know what? Yes. Yes I am. Sonic the Hedgehog was created from the figurative marble of creative genius, and I'm going to be his sculptor! But like, unironically.
Allen: Unironically? You just said some insane shit and you're just going to book-end it with 'unironically'?
Allen: Emily?
Addendum 838-3: The next mention would happen less than a week later, the shortest timeframe between mentions so far.
Allen: Emily.
Allen: Emily, I want to talk to you.
Lenore: Oh, hey Al. How's it going?
Allen: I want to say "I'm good" like I always do, but I'm really not. There's something deeply wrong with you, Emily.
Lenore: I mean… I did get self-diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Allen: SELF-DIAGNOSIS DOESN'T WORK, EMILY. I want you to stop making excuses for the fact that you've holed yourself up into your room for God knows how long. I know this project is, whatever it is, something you're really passionate about but it's not worth losing your mind over. Do your parents know that their daughter is rotting away in there?
Allen: I want to see your face again, Emily. Not through a screen, but in real life. We used to be friends, Emily.
Allen: What about that don't you get?
Lenore: …I appreciate the concern, but I have to get him done. I'll finish him up soon, I promise! It won't be long!
Allen: That doesn't matter anymore, Emily! You're dying in there! You barely respond to my messages anymore, or anyone's messages.
Lenore: Well, since you explained your point, how about I explain mine? What I saw in there was something truly beautiful!
Allen: "What you saw in there"? You saw a blue talking hedgehog, that's what you're wasting your life over?
Lenore: I wasn't finished.
Lenore: When I saw him, nothing else could compare. When I post about him on Twitter, his likeness magnetizes thousands of eyes. Eyes, Allen! They want to see my flower blossom as much as I do!
Allen: I get that, but this isn't something you should revolve your entire life around. There is life outside your apartment, Emily. Don't you want to see it?
Lenore: …I do, but I keep telling you. I keep telling you over and over again, only when I'm done. I'm so, so close! I wish you could understand how I feel, how much I want to put everything into this project. It's more than just an AI. Have you seen how people view AI on Twitter? It's usually the same. Uncanny images and videos, an excuse to put shortcuts in your works. Shortcuts. Shortcuts. Shortcuts. I'm the only one who puts everything into it.
Lenore: Now, I see the light. I see what has to be done. This is far beyond myself now.
Allen: Do you need me to help you get sorted with a therapist or something? You need to get out. Right now.
Lenore: It's a shame we can't be on the same wavelength, Al. I'm glad we're friends, I really am… but this is something I have to do alone. He needs to be finished. My masterpiece will be finished.
Allen: Em.
Allen: Emily, please respond to me.
Allen: It's been months. You've been sucked into… Whatever the Hell this *thing* is, everybody's worried about you. You haven't been responding to your calls, your mom had to resort to asking me because you never respond!
Allen: This isn't worth it, Emily.
Allen: You're the best friend I had in a while. Sure, we don't see eye-to-eye a lot but… but there's people in this world who need you. I need you!
Allen: Your mom and dad are worried about you, they keep asking me about their daughter. You're their daughter. I miss your bright eyes, your smile… Do you remember when we went to that community fair together? That was the happiest I've seen you in a while.
Allen: Remember when I helped you get that stuffed animal? Yeah, you sucked at the games but they rigged anyways! We just laughed at the end as we watched the sunset… It was incredible. You're incredible.
Allen: I would do anything just to see you again, Emily.
Allen: Please.
Allen: Please, reply back. I'm so scared.
Allen: I don't want to let you go.

Note: Shortly after the discovery of Lenore and Oliver's chatlogs, a text file opened up on the laptop that RPC-838 was on.
Where is she?
