Containment Protocols: Specimens of RPC-843 are to be contained within two acre enclosed plots (40 buildings total) in Biocontainment Site-127. The plot must be filled with soil and be irrigated by overhead misters. RPC-843 does not require light to grow, RPC-843 can be grown in an unlighted and fully enclosed room.

Trimming of RPC-843 must require the use of a robot system consisting of chainsaws attached to robotic arms, which are currently affixed to the ceiling of Site-127 and are able to be operated remotely. The system is required to be equipped with industrial-grade vacuums at all costs, particularly during trimming sessions. During trimming, the vacuum nozzle is to be directed towards the area of the incision, and personnel must remain vigilant for airborne debris, particularly RPC-843's rapidly propelled leaves.

Should another RPC-843 instance is found in situ, it must be immediately cut down, sent back to Site-127 to be melted down, and repurposed. Any witnesses are to be tracked down and administered Class-A-1 amnestics.
Clearings of former RPC-843 forests are to be fenced off due to ecological contamination as a cover story.
Biocontainment Site-127 is located in ██████, Manitoba, Canada. Site-127 is modified exteriorly to resemble a complex of warehouses owned by SLS Enterprises, a front company, and it is to be fenced off to prevent unauthorized entry.

Due to several instances being made out of precious metals, heightened security and patrols are to be established, especially around structures leading to the containment chambers of RPC-843 instances which consist purely of precious metals.
To prevent market and economic downturns (especially due to the presence of gold, silver and rhodium RPC-843 instances), they are to be used primarily for mechanical and technological purposes instead of for economic use. Any excess precious metals produced by RPC-843 are to be disposed of.

RPC-843-2 is to be contained in a Standard Humanoid containment chamber in Site-127, furnished in traditional First Nations style furniture. It should be provided with its belongings found in its tepee prior to containment and belongings it asks for as long as it does not compromise Authority security, and due to extensive good behavior since containment, it has been allowed free access around Site-127 including RPC-843's containment chambers itself provided no access to sensitive areas.

Description: RPC-843 are currently 158 instances of a coniferous tree, superficially resembling Pinus monticola1, though their primary distinction being that complete absence of the species' natural coloration. Whereas nonanomalous silver pines typically grow between 30-70 meters in height, RPC-843 instances are much shorter, only having been observed to reach a maximum height of 15 meters.

The anomalous property of RPC-843 is that every instance is entirely composed of metal2. Analysis of metals extracted from RPC-843 show they are usually 99.5-100% pure, though alloys of the recorded metals have been recorded as well.

Despite lacking organic components, RPC-843 requires sustenance and necessitates maintenance similar to its nonanomalous counterpart. The metallic components of RPC-843 do not exhibit rusting, even when exposed to water. The resulting powder has been found to be chemically identical to rust flakes.
However, when not given the sustenance it needs, the entire tree will begin to rust (or oxidize in the case of copper instances) over the course of several weeks before eventually collapsing and “dying”, in which it will disintegrate into an ash-like powder. This powder’s composition is identical to rust flakes. If watered during the “wilting” process, the rust will disappear within several days after given its means of sustenance.

RPC-843 does not seem to be affected by temperature nor by winter and autumn patterns.
During a recorded heatwave in which temperatures reached 38.8°C, RPC-843 was not affected in any way. Similarly, during another incident in which temperatures fell to an all-time low at -30.9°C, RPC-843 was not affected in either way as well.
RPC-843 does not require light to grow and only demonstrates growth when unobserved by human subjects.

Growth rates of RPC-843 instances are approximately twice that of nonanomalous silver pine.

RPC-843 is not inherently hostile to humans nor animals, with one exception.
If attempts are made to prune RPC-843’s leaves or trunk, or if its trunk or roots are stepped on or otherwise disturbed, several leaves detach from their branches and hurl themselves toward the offender at velocities ranging from 64 to 112 km/h. Detached leaves consistently target the neck or limbs of the offender, but avoid vital regions, suggesting a deterrent rather than lethal intent. Attempts to impede the leaves’ assault are largely ineffective; however, high-powered vacuums have proven highly successful at neutralizing the projectiles.

Unusually, RPC-843 does not produce cones; reproduction occurs instead through flowers located on its branches. RPC-843’s inflorescences superficially resemble those of Nepenthes3, though they are composed of the same metallic material as the rest of the organism.

Over a period of approximately two months, RPC-843 produces seeds resembling spherical gold nuggets measuring roughly 4 mm in diameter. Following maturation, the seeds detach and are propelled into the air; upon landing on soil or farmland, germination occurs within 1 to 4 months.

After germination, RPC-843 develops into a sapling resembling a nonanomalous silver pine.
Saplings reach maturity after approximately two years. RPC-843 can be artificially pollinated, though in all recorded cases it defaults to self-pollination.

When pollen from one RPC-843 instance is used to pollinate the flower of another composed of a different metal, the resulting sapling develops as a 1:1 alloy of both metals. The pollination process mirrors that of nonanomalous Nepenthes specimens, with pollen transferred from the female to the male flower.
Microscopically, pollen harvested from RPC-843 resembles finely powdered metal.
Prior to containment, it is hypothesized that RPC-843 achieved pollination through insects and other flying pollinators.
Hybridization among three distinct RPC-843 instances of differing metallic composition has been observed, producing offspring composed of a 33:33:33 alloy.

Instances of RPC-843 can be melted down, at which point the material becomes inert and indistinguishable from nonanomalous metal. Metals obtained in this manner exhibit identical properties to their nonanomalous counterparts and show no signs of anomalous vitality or sentience.

Sections or entire instances of RPC-843 may be cut down, initially displaying durability comparable to wood; however, once separated, the material anomalously reverts to the durability and composition of the metal from which it originated.

See RPC-843-EX for details on RPC-843-2.

Addendum: RPC-843 was discovered by a party of 5 hikers in ███████ Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada in █████ Park, 2███ after seeing a glare of light in a valley. When they walked closer, they found a forest comprising of mostly RPC-843. The party believed the trees were an art installation and went around to investigate and walk around it, where they took various photographs and videos of themselves around RPC-843. These recovered images have now been catalogued as RPC-843-PV.4 After around 1 hour and 15 minutes, one of the hikers had accidentally tripped on one instance's roots that were exposed, that instance detached █ leaves into the offending hiker, leaving him with ██ scratches.
The party quickly left the area, reported the trees to a nearby park ranger, ████ ██████ who after observing the tree called in a botanist working for a botanical garden in █████, ██████, Canada. That botanist, ███████ █████; who after finding no organic components and observed it grow over several weeks and attacking wildlife that tripped onto its trunk or roots notified Authority officials. After all members of the party, the park ranger and the botanist were debriefed, they were administered Class A-2 amnestics and released with the cover story of a bat attack and administered rabies series.
Relocation of RPC-843 took ██ weeks, as ██ Authority lumberjacks wearing EOD suits and ██ trucks were called in to uproot and transport the trees to Biocontainment Site-127, which had been built specifically to accommodate this anomaly. Several injuries were sustained during the initial containment operation.

Addendum 2: Following an event on 3/18/26, where for the entire duration of the day, all compasses on personal phones and analog compasses all pointed regardless of direction towards southwest, an emergency expedition was granted by Site-127 Director Adam Rogers at 4:30 AM, and Authority helicopters were dispatched to the location. In this expedition were seven (7) MST Echo-8 personnel carrying industrial-grade vacuums, rations enough for a week and five (5) researchers. The following logs are cataloged as RPC-843-EX.
MST Echo-8 was chosen due to potential biohazardous risks that may arise in this mission.
