Containment Protocols: Specimens of RPC-843 are to be contained within two acre enclosed plots (40 buildings total) in Biocontainment Site-127. The plot must be filled with soil and be irrigated by overhead misters. RPC-843 does not require light to grow, RPC-843 can be grown in an unlighted and fully enclosed room.
Trimming of RPC-843 must require the use of a robot system consisting of chainsaws attached to robotic arms, which are currently affixed to the ceiling of Site-127 and are able to be operated remotely. The system is required to be equipped with industrial-grade vacuums at all costs, particularly during trimming sessions. During trimming, the vacuum nozzle is to be directed towards the area of the incision, and personnel must remain vigilant for airborne debris, particularly RPC-843's rapidly propelled leaves.
Should another RPC-843 instance is found in situ, it must be immediately cut down, sent back to Site-127 to be melted down, and repurposed. Any witnesses are to be tracked down and administered Class-A-1 amnestics.
Clearings of former RPC-843 forests are to be fenced off due to ecological contamination as a cover story.
Biocontainment Site-127 is located in ██████, Manitoba, Canada. Site-127 is modified exteriorly to resemble a complex of warehouses owned by SLS Enterprises, a front company, and it is to be fenced off to prevent unauthorized entry.
Due to several instances being made out of precious metals, heightened security and patrols are to be established, especially around structures leading to the containment chambers of RPC-843 instances which consist purely of precious metals.
To prevent market and economic downturns (especially due to the presence of gold, silver and rhodium RPC-843 instances), they are to be used primarily for mechanical and technological purposes instead of for economic use. Any excess precious metals produced by RPC-843 are to be disposed of.
RPC-843-2 is to be contained in a Standard Humanoid containment chamber in Site-127, furnished in traditional First Nations style furniture. It should be provided with its belongings found in its tepee prior to containment and belongings it asks for as long as it does not compromise Authority security, and due to extensive good behavior since containment, it has been allowed free access around Site-127 including RPC-843's containment chambers itself provided no access to sensitive areas.
Description: RPC-843 are currently 158 instances of a coniferous tree, superficially resembling Pinus monticola, though their primary distinction being that complete absence of the species' natural coloration. Whereas nonanomalous silver pines typically grow between 30-70 meters in height, RPC-843 instances are much shorter, only having been observed to reach a maximum height of 15 meters.
The anomalous property of RPC-843 is that every instance is entirely composed of metal. Analysis of metals extracted from RPC-843 show they are usually 99.5-100% pure, though alloys of the recorded metals have been recorded as well.
Despite lacking organic components, RPC-843 requires sustenance and necessitates maintenance similar to its nonanomalous counterpart. The metallic components of RPC-843 do not exhibit rusting, even when exposed to water. The resulting powder has been found to be chemically identical to rust flakes.
However, when not given the sustenance it needs, the entire tree will begin to rust (or oxidize in the case of copper instances) over the course of several weeks before eventually collapsing and “dying”, in which it will disintegrate into an ash-like powder. This powder’s composition is identical to rust flakes. If watered during the “wilting” process, the rust will disappear within several days after given its means of sustenance.
RPC-843 does not seem to be affected by temperature nor by winter and autumn patterns.
During a recorded heatwave in which temperatures reached 38.8°C, RPC-843 was not affected in any way. Similarly, during another incident in which temperatures fell to an all-time low at -30.9°C, RPC-843 was not affected in either way as well.
RPC-843 does not require light to grow and only demonstrates growth when unobserved by human subjects.
Growth rates of RPC-843 instances are approximately twice that of nonanomalous silver pine.
RPC-843 is not inherently hostile to humans nor animals, with one exception.
If attempts are made to prune RPC-843’s leaves or trunk, or if its trunk or roots are stepped on or otherwise disturbed, several leaves detach from their branches and hurl themselves toward the offender at velocities ranging from 64 to 112 km/h. Detached leaves consistently target the neck or limbs of the offender, but avoid vital regions, suggesting a deterrent rather than lethal intent. Attempts to impede the leaves’ assault are largely ineffective; however, high-powered vacuums have proven highly successful at neutralizing the projectiles.
Unusually, RPC-843 does not produce cones; reproduction occurs instead through flowers located on its branches. RPC-843’s inflorescences superficially resemble those of Nepenthes, though they are composed of the same metallic material as the rest of the organism.
Over a period of approximately two months, RPC-843 produces seeds resembling spherical gold nuggets measuring roughly 4 mm in diameter. Following maturation, the seeds detach and are propelled into the air; upon landing on soil or farmland, germination occurs within 1 to 4 months.
After germination, RPC-843 develops into a sapling resembling a nonanomalous silver pine.
Saplings reach maturity after approximately two years. RPC-843 can be artificially pollinated, though in all recorded cases it defaults to self-pollination.
When pollen from one RPC-843 instance is used to pollinate the flower of another composed of a different metal, the resulting sapling develops as a 1:1 alloy of both metals. The pollination process mirrors that of nonanomalous Nepenthes specimens, with pollen transferred from the female to the male flower.
Microscopically, pollen harvested from RPC-843 resembles finely powdered metal.
Prior to containment, it is hypothesized that RPC-843 achieved pollination through insects and other flying pollinators.
Hybridization among three distinct RPC-843 instances of differing metallic composition has been observed, producing offspring composed of a 33:33:33 alloy.
Instances of RPC-843 can be melted down, at which point the material becomes inert and indistinguishable from nonanomalous metal. Metals obtained in this manner exhibit identical properties to their nonanomalous counterparts and show no signs of anomalous vitality or sentience.
Sections or entire instances of RPC-843 may be cut down, initially displaying durability comparable to wood; however, once separated, the material anomalously reverts to the durability and composition of the metal from which it originated.
See RPC-843-EX for details on RPC-843-2.
Addendum: RPC-843 was discovered by a party of 5 hikers in ███████ Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada in █████ Park, 2███ after seeing a glare of light in a valley. When they walked closer, they found a forest comprising of mostly RPC-843. The party believed the trees were an art installation and went around to investigate and walk around it, where they took various photographs and videos of themselves around RPC-843. These recovered images have now been catalogued as RPC-843-PV. After around 1 hour and 15 minutes, one of the hikers had accidentally tripped on one instance's roots that were exposed, that instance detached █ leaves into the offending hiker, leaving him with ██ scratches.
The party quickly left the area, reported the trees to a nearby park ranger, ████ ██████ who after observing the tree called in a botanist working for a botanical garden in █████, ██████, Canada. That botanist, ███████ █████; who after finding no organic components and observed it grow over several weeks and attacking wildlife that tripped onto its trunk or roots notified Authority officials. After all members of the party, the park ranger and the botanist were debriefed, they were administered Class A-2 amnestics and released with the cover story of a bat attack and administered rabies series.
Relocation of RPC-843 took ██ weeks, as ██ Authority lumberjacks wearing EOD suits and ██ trucks were called in to uproot and transport the trees to Biocontainment Site-127, which had been built specifically to accommodate this anomaly. Several injuries were sustained during the initial containment operation.
Overview: RPC-843-PV are a set of digital media in the form of around 120 MB of videos and 50 MB of images that the hiking party which discovered RPC-843 in the wild that eventually led to Authority containment.
Below are an overview of five of the recovered images and videos, all labeled from RPC-843-PV-1 though 843-12.
Set of footage are dated as of ██, ██, 201█.
RPC-843-PV-1 is an image showing two of the five individuals in the hiking party, now henceforward referred to as Group-843 posing in front of RPC-843, smiling.
A large grove of RPC-843 are seen behind the two individuals, the majority of which appear to be composed of ferrous metal resembling aluminum and iron, though several individuals made of non-ferrous metals like copper are also visible.
RPC-843-PV-2 is another image showing a severed RPC-843 inflorescence being held by a male individual of Group-843, Dominic ███████ in his hand. Light from the canopy shines illuminating the inflorescence. This severed part, once belonging to what appears to be a titanium instance is seen in full detail, showing male reproductive parts which clearly indicate that whatever instance that it fell from was a male instance, further confirming that RPC-843 are dioecious.
RPC-843-PV-3 is a video, about 3 minutes and 47 seconds long showing three members of the group and their dog, named Tonto walking through a large forest of RPC-843 around ██ miles northwest of ██████, ███████ ███████, estimated size about 350 acres at around noon though in heavy shade.
This forest is diverse in types of metals, with the most common in the video being instances composed of materials resembling ferrous metals, though there are also plentiful of instances also made of non-ferrous metals like copper, bronze, lead and nickel, among others with copper being the most common apart from ferrous metals.
In addition to vast instances of RPC-843-PV, non-anomalous plant life native to the area are also seen in RPC-843-PV-3 growing among RPC-843. Animal life is almost non-existent, apart from insects, both flying and crawling and various small detritivores, indicating that RPC-843's defensive mechanisms have over time, deterred away native wildlife from the area. Further expeditions have proven this as well.
RPC-843-PV-4 is an image showing a rare instance of wildlife interacting safely with RPC-843 without triggering its defensive mechanism. It was taken by a female member of Group-843, Olivia ██████ at around morning time.
In this image, RPC-843-PV-4 shows two ravens perched on a copper RPC-843 instance's branch, looking towards an object or entity off-camera. Behind these ravens and this instance are several more copper instances and a forest comprising of non-anomalous plant life surrounding the entire area around it. Light shines through the canopy, with a slight glare from the RPC-843 instances.
It is unknown as to how these birds managed to land safely on RPC-843 as it was reported during the containment mission that the defensive mechanism was triggered at the slightest disturbance.
More study is to be conducted around this matter, especially around birds interact with it, Dr. Singh.
RPC-843-PV-5 is a video, around 2 minutes and 29 second long. No member of Group-843 is present, though a human silhouette is present at around the 1:48 mark. The video is unusual being that it is still unlike other RPC-843-PV videos which are shaky due to being hand-recorded. RPC-843-PV-5 shows a smaller grove of RPC-843 near Mt. ██████, ███████ ███████, around in the evening hours. The grove of these instances appear to be composed entirely out of ferrous metals, surrounded by non-anomalous coniferous trees.
At around the 1:14 mark, a deer can be seen walking into the area, alone as no other wildlife has been spotted in the video prior to the animal entering the frame.
It is seen grazing on grass and moss growing on the ground and is seen disturbing the soil around RPC-843 in the video. At numerous times, it is seen making its way into the vicinity of RPC-843.
At 2:08, near the end of the video, it starts to graze near the permanent roots of RPC-843, and after 3 seconds of eating grass and other plant life right on the permanent roots, RPC-843 detaches five (5) leaves at speeds estimated from the video at 50 mph, and within seconds, creates lacerations across its neck and shoulder.
"Jesus Christ, this thing really hates animals! I think it might be borderline Gamma but we will keep it as Beta for now", Senior Researcher Dr. Evans
Upon finishing its defense mechanism, RPC-843's leaves fall on the ground as if abiding by the normal laws of physics again. This is the only RPC-843-PV footage that contains documentation as to how this works in the wild.
Authority field agents who tracked down this location post-containment by using the EXIF metadata of RPC-843-PV-5 managed to recover 3 of the 5 leaves in the videos, which were now buried in deep sediment. These leaves have now been kept for further study and archives in Site-127.
Furthermore, 5 of the original containment team who forgot to remove these leaves during the destruction of these groves during the containment of RPC-843 are now placed on temporary unpaid leave as of 3/20/25.
END OF FILE
Addendum 2: Following an event on 3/18/26, where for the entire duration of the day, all compasses on personal phones and analog compasses all pointed regardless of direction towards southwest, an emergency expedition was granted by Site-127 Director Adam Rogers at 4:30 AM, and Authority helicopters were dispatched to the location. In this expedition were seven (7) MST Echo-8 personnel carrying industrial-grade vacuums, rations enough for a week and five (5) researchers. The following logs are cataloged as RPC-843-EX.
MST Echo-8 was chosen due to potential biohazardous risks that may arise in this mission.
9:16 AM: Camera flickers to life, showing a large clearing. This clearly indicates that this was once a forest comprised entirely of RPC-843 which was felled en masse during containment efforts.
9:19 AM: Helicopter lands on the clearing. Clearing is now located as just south in the valley of Mt. Sonata, and immediately upon landing, the team, now henceforward referred to as Alpha finds a Blackfoot traditional tepee, which was not present earlier.
There is a tepee now, we have not seen it before, quick, add it to the logs!, Dr. Singh
The tepee is about 800 yards away and it takes about 5 minutes for Alpha to fully catch up to the tepee, now classified as RPC-843-1. As Alpha gets closer, RPC-843-1 appears to be of typical Blackfoot design, again aligning with Alpha's earlier assumptions.
"It looks just like what we thought it would, go down!", Dr. Blair
9:24 AM: Alpha finally arrives at the tepee's location. The tepee is larger than normal, about 15 meters tall by 9 meters in diameter. RPC-843-1's exterior is made of a leather like material held up by logs resembling that of pine. There is a flap in the front that acts as a door, with a small handle for easy opening.
"There is a door, we suspect there is a potential risk for an extradimensional anomaly, but for the understanding of this anomaly we still have to search", Dr. Singh
9:28 AM: After examining RPC-843-1's exterior, Alpha decides to open the door, and upon opening the door, leads into the interior. The interior is minimally furnished, with only a leather rug, wooden bench, a makeshift stove and various traditional religious objects, primarily medicine bundles, drums and rattles, feathers and other items.
A humanoid entity is found sitting inside. It does not react aggressively, but just stares suspiciously at Alpha first while sitting, before sliding away in fear.
This entity, henceforward referred to as RPC-843-2 appears to be a female human of First Nations descent in her early thirties. RPC-843-2 is dressed in what appears to be traditional Blackfeet attire and makeup.
9:29 AM: Alpha tries to soothe RPC-843-2 by introducing themselves, with Senior Researcher Dr. Singh especially leading the effort. It is soon discovered that RPC-843-2 appears to have limited English skills and prefers to speak in Blackfoot over English despite understand some English.
"We are here to simply learn more about you, we are not here to hurt you, just to learn about your life", Dr. Singh
9:36 AM: As communications break down, Dr. Singh assures RPC-843-2, who remains cooperative that they will bring a Blackfoot speaker to come talk with her.
9:39 AM: Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki, a Blackfoot speaker from Site-002 is called in, who immediately addresses RPC-843-2.
9:39:20 AM: Both parties agree to an interview after communication is established.
Interview Log: RPC-843-2 Interview
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: Hi, I am here to learn more about your nature and your life, we are not here to harm you,
RPC-843-2: Yes, what are you doing here?
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: Who are you? What is your name?
RPC-843-2: I am, ahem, Wawetseka and I have been living here for eternity.
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: I see. I am here to understand what are you doing here.
RPC-843-2: I am the protector of nature and my people. You tore down my trees? I set up camp here now in where they used to be, be prepared for a major disaster if you destroy nature further.
Dr: Ksiskstakiaaki: What do you mean by that?
RPC-843-2: My metal trees, they… they're.. gone.. now, because of you. I created them a long time ago. To help my tribe build things. Then… they disappeared.
Dr: Ksiskstakiaaki: Don't worry, our tribe, the Niitsitapi, our people are still around, we are actually preserving the land now as a park, nobody is allowed to disturb it anymore but due to safety reasons we had to remove it as people and animals have gotten hur-
RPC-843-2: That's not fair! You destroyed my creation for a terrible reason!
RPC-843-2 takes what appears to be a sachet from the back of the tipi, later confirmed to be a medicine bundle, and threatens to open it if Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki refuses to leave or elaborate on "forest protection".
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki explains the concept of a nature reserve to RPC-843-2, to which has great affect on soothing RPC-843-2, returning it to a composed and cooperative state.
RPC-843-2: I am pleased to hear that. Nature would be happy.
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: Furthermore, what did the Kinnonna do to the trees when they first encountered them?
RPC-843-2: Me, and my tribe saw the explorers hike through the woods encounter them numerous times. They got confused at first, then tried to hack it down with their axes only to get attacked with the needles of the trees as they were not Niitsitapi. They ran away and never came back.
RPC-843-2: A long time later, I don't know many years later, I saw some people in orange and grey clothes come to destroy them while loud roars emanated. I pleaded them to stop, but they did not speak Niitsiipowahsin, so I wept, and wept.
At this point, RPC-843-2 begins to weep slightly in distress, lamenting about what it describes was the containment process of RPC-843.
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: I am very sorry we had to do this but we had to do it out of safety reasons. If we kept it out in nature, people could have gotten hurt. Even then, our people, the Niitsitapi have already advanced to the point we don't need the trees anymore for metal. We already have something called steel mills, foundries, and more. We can produce more metal than what these trees can provide.
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki shows RPC-843-2 several photos of steel mills, and the process of steel manufacturing and mining step-by-step which clearly exceed the output of RPC-843. This appears to clearly soothen RPC-843 from its currently distressed state back to a composed and relieved state.
RPC-843-2: I am impressed, society has indeed moved on. But… where are my trees?
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: Luckily, we have not destroyed them completely. We had to destroy some of them as there were too much for us to keep without overwhelming our supplies. However, we ended up keeping 158 of them, and we can propagate more of them if we want.
RPC-843-2: I am… relieved. I am glad… things are sorted out.
RPC-843-2 hands what appears to be a sachet to Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki. Upon opening the sachet, it reveals 6 small blue orbs later determined to be RPC-843 seeds that when sprouted, become diamond saplings. They share the same properties as all RPC-843 instances and behave like diamond after being cut.
Dr. Ksiskstakiaaki: Thank you for your time and for your gift. This concludes your interview.
This interview has now confirmed that RPC-843-2 is the creator of RPC-843-2.
It is assumed this event targeted the Authority because RPC-843-2 needed to explain the purpose and creation of herself, and RPC-843 as a whole, and one evidence that supports this is that it occurred several years after containment and RPC-843-2 had discovered RPC-843 missing.
Dr. Singh: Either way, this interview has been extremely helpful that we have now found the source of this bizarre anomaly that looks like an art installation in the middle of a national park that even human artists can't build without spending years and a fortune….
